Carbonate Ecology
Overview
The carbonate ecology research group studies calcareous organisms through time and their reaction to environmental change, including CO2, temperature, and sea-level fluctuations, as well as plastic pollution. For this, we study fossil and modern reefs systems in situ, and to define specific reactions under controlled conditions, we undertake experiments on model organisms such as foraminifers. We thus aim at gaining an understanding of adaptation potentials of calcifying organisms as well as shifts in biodiversity.
